History of Jones Insurance Agency, Inc.

It could be said that Jones Insurance Agency started from a fire in a grocery store.

In 1955 fire destroyed a grocery business in downtown Garner. Without adequate insurance to rebuild his business, C. Purvis Jones considered other enterprises. Having just experienced first-hand the importance of good insurance, Mr. Jones decided to open an insurance agency. In an upstairs office in downtown Garner, the first policy was hand typed on behalf of The Continental Insurance Company.

Purvis's son, Jerry E. Jones, joined the family business in 1974 and purchased the agency in 1976. Keeping the focus on customer service and community involvement helped the agency grow through the years. The number of employees has increased from four to twenty, but the family atmosphere remains.

The insurance needs of customers have grown more complex, especially those of business owners. In addition to Personal and Commercial Lines, Jones Insurance Agency has added staff that specializes in Group Benefits, Life and Disability, Retirement Planning, and Individual Health insurance. The agency continues to serve a broad range of local businesses and has developed special expertise for contractors, nurserymen, churches, dentists, restaurants, non-profit organizations, assisted living and skilled nursing facilities.
